Evoking classic vintage glamour, the live entertainment merges the titillating risque with professional entertainment. With it's distinctly French Club feel, you'll think you're in 1920s Paris. Includes performances by contortionist Bree Robertson and saxophonist. http://www.mytickets.com.au/crystal-boudoir/1-66420/view.aspx

A stylish subterranean nightspot in the wheeling and dealing professional heart of Sydney
Where mail was once sorted deep under the iconic GPO building in Martin Place, well-dressed business types now clink cocktail glasses under sparkling crystal chandeliers. Despite its nondescript entrance between upmarket shops and restaurants, the Crystal Bar is a stylish subterranean nightspot in the wheeling and dealing professional heart of Sydney. We are ushered into one of the private rooms by the bar's friendly hostess after a warm greeting and are feeling a little bit special as we recline on the chocolate leather banquettes and watch the buzz out in the main bar through gauzy gold curtains. The walls of the cave-like booth are made from thick sandstone and are glowing a soft red, thanks to cleverly placed lighting. The space is comfortable for four friends, six would be a bit too snug. We even have our own crystal chandelier and our dedicated waiter keeps popping in to see if we need more drinks. During our stay from 7pm to 9pm, the main bar area gets busier and noisier but the sophisticated crowd never gets rowdy. For all this underground glamour, expect to pay a little more than normal for the cocktails (they're about $16). And the sparse food platters are not going to fill you up if you have a raging hunger. We snack on an antipasto plate ($19.50) and a cheese platter ($18.50), but are left wanting more after devouring the tasty morsels. From the drinks menu I try the Citrus Swizzle ($16), which is long and refreshing, bursting with citrus vodka, Cointreau, lemon, pineapple, orange and cinnamon. The Garden Martini ($16) includes fresh cucumber, chilli and vodka. And for those in the mood to splurge, there's a bottle of Torbreck shiraz for $578. The bathroom is equally as beautiful as the main bar area with mini chandeliers attached to the rough-hewn sandstone walls. In the bowels of Martin Place's GPO Building, where postal workers once sorted mail using light shining through the glass grids in the footpath above, a scene that could have come from a David Lynch movie unfolds.
As an odd rhythm starts to pound, two women dresses as 1940's harlots prowl around each other in this underground den, pausing occasionally to stare at their audience before continuing their burlesque routine. When they finish, a saxophonist starts playing until the next act begins. This is Crystal Boudoir, one of Sydney's newest and certainly oddest venues. To enter you descend an old circular fire escape and are led through a corridor hewn from sandstone after you pay your $25 entrance fee ($35 if you reserve a seat).
Inside you'll find a room with all the old tiles and walls left as they were 100 years ago; only now there are booths bathed in red light as well as black leather furniture and a bar. It is open from 9pm on Saturday nights with performances running hourly from 10pm until roughly midnight, when the audience then descends on the floor and begins dancing.
Crystal Boudoir is just the tip of the iceberg, however, when it comes to Sydney's more eccentric venues. Dan Kaufman, The Sydney Morning Herald : Metro, Quirk Choices, P. 4, May 18-24, 2007

The look: Chichi Parisian style, with Swarovski crystal chandeliers and leather booths. Snuggle up with someone special or a roup of up to 30 friends in the large alcoves. The soundtrack: DJ Lady Tre spins sexy lounge music Friday and Saturday nights. Signature drink: the 'Scarlett Johansson', made with grey goose vodka, Grand Marnier, lemon and cranberry juice ($16). The WOW factor: the glamorous Saturday night club 'Crystal Boudoir' ($25 on the door, $35 pre-book) brings 1920s cabaret entertainment. Highlights: the contortionist and crystal catsuit. On the menu: nibble on the Crystal cheese plate ($18.50) or try the Japanese sashimi plate of fresh tuna, salmon and kingfish ($19). Best for: groups of friends. There's a steady after-work crowd during the week. If this bar were an animal it would be... a rare black panther, cool and sleek. www.DeckofSecrets.com Sunday Magazine, Appetite, Bar None, P. 36, Sunday May 6, 2007

Hit, a sample of the new, sexy Saturday night entertainment at Crystal Bar drew a crowd keen to see the latest in cabaret, including contortionist Bree Robertson and choreographer Michael Boyd. But the show was stolen by the star quality of singer Min Robinson.
Miss, it's amazing how men forget their mamners when confronted with a sexy stage show. Some of the gents who should have known better nearly knocked us flying in their haste to push past and grab some souvenir snaps of the talent. The Sun Herald, S, Diary, S6,     April 8, 2007

Buresque club's cup bubbles over
The Crystal Bar made a big song and dance earlier this week about bringing a little class and culture to the Harbor Culture nightlife scene literally speaking. An intimate crowd gathered at the underground Martin Place nightspot on Tuesday night as the venue staged a preview of its saucy new burlesque show, Crystal Boudoir. Vega funnyman Mikey Robins cheekily voiced his disappointment on behalf of more than a few blokes on discovering the up market Saturday night performances did not include any flashing of flesh.
Oh, this is high class? So just the sex shows then, the trimmed-down brekkie radio jock joked. Instead guests were treated to a tantalizing line-up of dancers, singers and saxophonists, as they drank their way through 240 bottles of Moet and Chandon. Crystal Boudoir Launch, GPO Martin Place
A touch of 1920s Paris arrived in Sydney with the launch of the Crystal Boudoir in Martin Place last week. Inspired by the Moulin Rouge, the new club, complete with burlesque dancers, nestles within a sandstone vault inside the GPO Building. Tall, exotic waitresses escorted guests at the Tuesday opening to semi-private booths from where they could peer out and watch the action. Guests included Tony Squires, a trimmer Mikey Robins, surfer and regular on the social circuit Stuart Bedford-Brown and Cosmopolitan editor Sarah Wilson. Daily Telegraph, Scene, Insider, P. 114, Saturday April 8, 2007

Adding something a little different to Sydney's already raging bar scene, Crystal Bar launched its new night, Crystal Boudoir, to VIP guests in an event filed with sequins, dancing, live music and free flowing French Champagne. Hot choreographer Michael Boyd, who developed the stylish concept, joined two other dancers in a show that incorporated the vest of Parisian cabaret and burlesque. Guests were in aw of the soulful tunes sung by Min Davis who was joined by a very limber contortionist. The night is now open to the everyone so you can check out the sexy Parisian performances every Saturday night. Vive la France. 9 to 5, Social Scene, P. 19, April 10, 2007

Exclusive party

Door charges are on the ascent across Sydney. Be prepared to fork out the moolah just to get into the city's hip watering holes, such as Favela in Kings Cross, which is charging $25 to get in the door. Then you have to stump up for drinks once you're inside. The glamorous Crystal Bar in Martin Place is now charging $40 to get into its Crystal Boudoir nights on Saturdays, though at least patrons will be given a sexy burlesque show for their money. http://www.smh.com.au/news/opinion/model-performance-from-sydneys-no1-social-stayer/2007/04/05/1175366406363.html?page=3

Crystal's got a Boudoir and she's flinging open the doors on Saturday
Cabaret Parisian-style is one of Sydney's newest night hot spots. Crystal Boudoir at GPO's Crystal Bar combines burlesque and cabaret dancers with lounge singer Min, DJ Lady Tre, a saxophonist. Opens Easter Saturday, then every Saturday night. Entry: $35.00 (booked) or $40.00 at the door. Ph: 9229 7700. MX, MX News, P. 5, Tuesday April 3, 2007

Boudoir for the over 25s
Initially inspired by the success of Dita Von teese in the US, the launch of Crystal Boudoir is expected to bring a sense of vintage glamour to Sydney's Saturday nights, aimed squarely at punters over 25. The club night, which will be stage at the Crystal Bar in the depths of GPO Sydney, will feature cabaret and burlesque (plus Djs) with dancing choreographed by Michael Boyd. Boyd, who has worked on film clips for Kelly Clarkson and Delta Goodrem, has decided on a Parisian feel. Fortunately he has the credentials: Boyd was once part of the dance team for Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge. Christine Sams, Sun Herald, S, Entertainment, S13, April 1, 2007

Though a recent addition to the Sydney scene, Crystal looks set to become an enduring classic. Already popular with beautifully young things, this is a glamorous new venue built into the basement of the heritage listed GPO building. A curved staircase descends steeply to an intimate vault, dominated by massive raw sandstone pillars and a futuristic back-lit bar. The dance floor is surrounded by low banquettes and concealed alcoves, ideal for the most clandestine liaisons. Sophisticated lighting accentuates the subversive mood and the house DJ serves-up soulful grooves well into the early hours. Bar Secrets, Sydney, December, 2006

Signature drink
The Crystal Bar's Baltimore Eggnog: just the thing to get the kids excited and nanna acting righteous.
The good people at Crystal Bar, the new industro-chic drinking den underneath Martin Place in the GPO complex, have outdone themselves. We asked them for a Christmassy cocktail, and not only have they furnished us with their extremely cool take on the traditional eggnog, they've also passed on a wealth of detail about the drink and its traditions, which we're very happy to reproduce here: traditionally a digestive, in the Untied States, eggnog is commonly served at holiday parties, in particular between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day. In Baltimore, it was traditional for a young man to call upon all of his friends on New Year's Day, being offered a cup of eggnog at each house he stops in, becoming, naturally, more and more inebriated along the way, and so it was quite and achievement to actually manage to visit all of one's friends. Now that's what we call festive. Crystal Bar, downstairs, 1 Martin Place, Sydney, NSW, (02) 9229 7799, www.gposydney.com. Gourmet News, Gourmet Traveller, P. 29, December, 2006

An incredibly impressive, 132-year-old underground site that is smartly decorated with padded leather banquettes and ottomans and moody, red-hued lighting.
